Is Aquaponics Right For You?

AQUAPONICS AT HOME

Would you like to push your garden to the next level?

Aquaponics is the combination of aquaculture (raising fish) and hydroponics (growing plants without soil) together in an integrated system. The fish waste provides organic food for the plants and the plants naturally filter the water in which the fish live. The other invisible yet crucial elements are microbes and worms which convert the waste into fertilizer for plants.

Aquaponics is a soil less growing technique and since the plants and fish can be grown in places normal horticulture is considered unsuitable (poor soil, urban areas and even your concreted backyard). If it is combined with an environmentally controlled greenhouse you can product food all year round. It has also the environmental benefits of highly efficient water use, no nutrient run off and energy efficiency. The water pumps can even be run off a solar panel making your system sun powered and carbon neutral. How cool is that.
