Hello all, I’m relatively new to hydroponic gardening. I have a setup holding 150 plants in channels and a few containers with either coco fibre or perlite. I’ve already outgrown this and am looking at expanding.
But I am hoping for some advise on a couple of things. Firstly my greenhouse has been invaded my aphids 🙁 i’m looking for an organic spray to knock them dead. Could I have some suggestions please.
Is there a book that can be recommended, something that lists diseases, nutrient deficiencies and solutions.
And lastly is it possible to add worm wee to my NFT system.
Thank you in advance for your advise.
That sounds like a decent sized system.
Aphids are so annoying and at times absolutely infest a plant. They can be controlled by spraying but you must do it regularly, there are many natural sprays available, neem oils and other soaps work well but you must spray every 5-10 days or the they just come back.
Other options are beneficial organisms like wasps which can be introduced to a green house and they eat all the aphids.
To look up diseases and pests Google is the best resource.
Plants love organic additives such a worm juice however in a recirculating system it encourages slime and fungi to grow which turns the water sour and blocks pipes. I prefer to stick to mineral nutrients. However give it a try and see what happens.
Just a note with neem oils, use on ornamentals only not food crops. For edibles, try soap sprays.
Soap and Water. The basic nature of mild household detergents makes them perfect for getting rid of mild to moderate aphid infestations. Dilute a few tablespoons of dish soap in a small bucket of lukewarm water and use a sponge or spray bottle to apply the mixture to plants where aphids have taken hold
